
Sundogs Beat Cutthroats, 4-2 Victory

Prescott Valley, AZ - The Arizona Sundogs beat the Denver Cutthroats Friday night in a 4-2 victory at Tim's Toyota Center in front of 2013 fans.
The Sundogs set the pace for the game early in the first period, leading the Cutthroats by two points going into first intermission. Their first goal came on a 5-on-3 power play after Denver's Mario Boilard was called for roughing and 51 seconds later Sean Zimmerman was called for cross checking. Leading goal scorer of the Central Hockey League Chad Nehring scored halfway through the opening period with assists from Matt McCready. Less than a minute later Matt Register tallied the Sundogs second goal and his first of the season. Both Ron Meyers and Johan Ryd picked up the assists.
Denver made the only goal in the second frame when a shot rebounded just past Arizona's Adam Russo's right glove. The Cutthroat's Luke Fulghum collected the goal and was assisted by Boilard and Sean Zimmerman.
Troy Schwab tied the game 2:41 into the final period, with the game equalizer for the Cutthroats. Nehring scored the game winning goal and his second of the night with 12:18 left in regulation. The Sundogs furthered their lead when Derek LeBlanc scored their third power play goal of the night, Jason Morgan with the assist.
Russo took the win for the Sundogs making 23 saves, while Arizona outshot Denver 34-25. Arizona was 3-7 on the power play and Denver was 0-2. Nehring continues his goal streak with three consecutive games and Morgan is on a 10 game point streak. The Sundogs conclude their two-game set against the Cutthroats tomorrow night at Tim's Toyota Center. Tomorrow will be the last time this season, these two teams will meet in Prescott Valley.
