Chinooks Struggle to Score Against Booyah

Mequon, WI - The Chinooks took on the Green Bay Booyah in the second game of the series and final game of the homestand. Lakeshore lost the game with a final score of 7-3.
Taking the mound for the Chinooks was Trenton Wallace who has pitched 9.2 inning this season for Lakeshore and has an ERA of 1.86. Wallace was opposed by Zach Chappell of the Booyah who has an 6.83 ERA in 10 games.
The Booyah got out to a quick lead over the Chinooks. In the first inning, Cooper Morrison reached after being hit by a pitch and advanced on a groundout. A one-out walk followed and a single from Blaise Maris scored Morrison to make it a 1-0 game. The Chinooks were unable to answer and went down in order.
Green Bay kept the momentum going in the second. Ali LaPread walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Matt Korman walked as well and an RBI-single slipped past Barr at third to give the Booyah a two-run lead. Despite a leadoff single in the bottom of the inning, the Chinooks were unable to score.
The top of the third was put on hold during a 48-minute rain delay. At the top of the inning, Jacob Schellpfeffer relieved Wallace and walked Maris to start his night. Nick Kreutzer came up big with an RBI-double to the warning track to tack another run on for the Booyah. The Chinooks led of the inning with a leadoff double for Ronnie Sweeny III who advanced to third. David Dunn followed with a walk, putting runners at the corners. Sweeny scored on a wild pitch, but Dunn was caught at third for the first out. Cole Barr doubled and then advanced to third on an error by the centerfielder and then Jake Thompson doubled and Barr crossed the plate to make it a 3-2 ball game.
The Booyah answered right away. Mike Ruggiero worked a leadoff walk and advanced on a passed ball. Copper Morrison walked and a sacrifice bunt advanced the runners. Brady West grounded out but scored Ruggiero and Blaise Maris followed with an RBI-infield single to give Green Bay a three-run cushion. Griffin Doersching led off the inning with a walk and Trent Bauer ripped a single past first to bring Doersching to third. Doersching scored on a past ball with Sweeny batting to make it 5-3. The Chinooks loaded the bases but was unable to bring any of the runners across home plate.
The Booyah went down in order in the top of the fifth. Thompson got on base with a leadoff single and Daryl Myers followed with a walk. However, neither would score after Doersching flew out to centerfield and Bauer hit into a 4-6-3 double play to end the inning.
In the seventh inning, Jacob Buchberger hit a one-out triple and scored on a wild pitch to give increase the Booyah's lead over the Chinooks to three. In the bottom of the inning, Thompson led off with a double, but the Chinooks could not bring him in to score after two groundouts and a flyout to end the inning.
In the eighth, Matt Korman walked to lead off the inning and advanced to second on a single from Ruggiero. Morrison advanced the runners with a groundout and the bases were loaded after a walk to Logan Thomason. West came to the plate and delivered an sacrifice fly to center field to give the Booyah the lead, 7-3 over the Chinooks. Lakeshore went down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the inning. The four-run deficit was too much for the Chinooks to overcome and they lost the game to Green Bay. The Chinooks left ten runners on base throughout the course of the game.
Thompson had a strong game tonight going 4-5 on the night and Sweeny went 2-3 with a walk. This loss brings the Chinooks to 12-10 in the second half of the season and 28-30 overall. Lakeshore travels to Madison tomorrow to face the Mallards at 6:05 pm.
