
MoonDogs Drop Game Two for Series Split with Honkers

Mankato, Minn. - The Mankato MoonDogs settled for a split of a two-game series on Friday night. They fell to the Rochester Honkers 6-2.
The MoonDogs got on the board early when a wild pitch allowed Nick Novak (Angelo State) to score with ease in the first.
The Honkers quickly responded in the top of the second when Vinny Tosti (Oregon) singled to notch an RBI, it scored Ryan Ober (Oregon State). The game was then all even at one after two at The Frank.
Rochester advanced to a three-run lead in the third. A single, double and then another single each plated a run, giving the Honkers a 4-1 advantage.
In the fourth, the Honkers kept it going for the third straight inning, scoring another pair of runs. It came when Austin Schell (Golden West College) singled to score two to make the score 6-1.
In the sixth, Mikey Perez (UCLA) continued to swing the hot stick. He blasted his 6th bomb of the summer and 2nd of the series to make it 6-2.
The Dogs mounted a few rallies from that point on but couldn't muster up any runs and dropped game two for a split with the Honkers.
The Player of the Game, for the second straight night, was Perez. He added another homer to his season total during his 2-4 night at the plate.
The win was credited to the Honker's starting arm, Marty Tolson Jr. (Maryland - Eastern Shore). He went five complete frames allowing one run and five hits while walking one and retiring a pair on strikes. Four different Rochester relievers each worked an inning to round out the team win. The bullpen combined for an allowed three hits, a run, three walks and a trio of strikeouts.
Jaxon Passino of the MoonDogs was dished the loss after going 3.1 innings. He surrendered six runs (five earned) on 10 hits. He walked two and struck out five.
Tomorrow the Mankato MoonDogs (27-29) make the trek to Wisconsin to take on the Eau Claire Express (31-25) for a weekend series. Dalton Grose (UM - Crookston) will doing the pitching tomorrow in his first start of the summer. The game is slated for a 6:35 p.m. start at Carson Park in Eau Claire, Wis.
