Koenig Strikes out Ten as First Place Rox Sweep Larks

St. Cloud, MN- Trevor Koenig (St. Cloud State) fanned 10 batters in seven innings pitched as St. Cloud (35-20) shutout Bismarck (26-30) 6-0 to sweep the Larks. The Rox now have a three-game lead in the Great Plains West Division over the Mankato MoonDogs and have won 12 of their last 14 games.

The scoreless game was broken in the third inning as Jordan Barth (Augustana) scored Daniel Montgomery Jr. (Southwestern) from third base to take a 1-0 lead.

Freddy Achecar (Georgetown) hit his first home run of the season in the fourth inning, a two-run blast to right field that extended St. Cloud's lead to 3-0.

In the seventh inning, the Rox doubled their score and claimed a 6-0 lead. Parker Smejkal (Nebraska-Omaha), Zack Elliott (Minnesota) and Achecar each had an RBI hit.

Following Koenig on the mound, Riley Ahern (St. Cloud State) pitched the final two innings to finish the game.

St. Cloud is home on Saturday, July 27th against the Thunder Bay Border Cats at 6:05 p.m. It's the 30th Anniversary celebration of the classic movie Field of Dreams. Actor Dwier Brown, who plays John Kinsella in the film, will be at the game taking pictures and signing autographs with the fans. It's presented by Stearns County Growers Association.
