Spokane Chiefs News Release
Ondrej Roman and Mitch Wahl had two goals apiece and the Spokane Chiefs scored four in the first period en route to a 7-1 win over the Portland Winter Hawks on Wednesday night in the Spokane Arena. The Chiefs took both halves of the home-and-home series following up their 5-4 shootout win on Sunday night in Portland. Spokane is now 25-5-1-2 on the season with 53 points, six more than Saturday's opponent, the second place Tri-City Americans.
Roman, Wahl, Judd Blackwater and Seth Compton all scored in the first against Portland's lone goal to push their lead to 4-1 through 20-minutes of play. Blackwater's, his 11th of the year, came on the power play and Compton's fourth of the season was shorthanded. Spokane outshot the Winter Hawks 17- 15 in the first.
Roman tallied the lone goal of the second before Chris Bruton and Wahl scored in the third to finish the game.
Kevin Armstrong was selected as the game's first star after making 32 saves on the night and winning his 12th game of the season.
The Chiefs have two games remaining before the Holiday break, both against U.S. Division opponents. Seattle will visit on Friday and Tri-City on Saturday.
Help the Chiefs and Coeur d'Alene Casino ring in 2008 early with the Pre-New Year's Eve Celebration on Friday night.
