Peoria Chiefs News Release
Peoria, IL - Thanks to great pitching and a timely two-out hit, the Peoria Chiefs found another way to win 1-0 over the Beloit Snappers to complete a four-game sweep Tuesday night at O'Brien Field.
With the game still scoreless in the bottom of the eighth, Jake Muyco doubled to start the inning. However, he was cut down at third after a failed sacrifice bunt attempt by Jonathon Mota who ended up at first. After a Davy Gregg strikeout, Mota stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error by catcher Allan De San Miguel. Robinson Chirinos was up next and came through in the clutch yet again with a looping RBI single into right field bringing home Mota and the game's only run to put the Chiefs on top 1-0.
Beloit had numerous opportunities to score but Peoria pitchers made the big pitches when they needed to. The Snappers had a runner on third and less than two outs in both the fifth and sixth innings, but Yepez and reliever Matt Avery quickly ended those threats.
Yepez went 5 2/3 scoreless innings and allowed five hits in one of his best outings of the year. The lefty walked four and struck out four. Avery was dominant in his relief outing. He went 2 1/3 innings and allowed just one Snapper to reach base. Ed Campusano came in in the ninth and made it 14 consecutive saves to start the year. Beloit starter Ryan Mullins was about as good going 7 2/3 innings. But he gave up the only run of the game allowing up just three hits total in his lengthiest start of the season.
