Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
FOX CITIES STADIUM -- The Burlington Bees broke open a close game with a 7-run sixth inning to defeat the Wisconsin Timber Rattler 10-3 Tuesday night. Mario Lisson had a two-run homer in the big inning and drove in three total runs for the Bees. Chris Nicoll pitched a career high seven innings and gave up one run on two hits for his third win of the season.
Burlington (21-22) went in front with a run in the top of the second inning on an RBI single by Jose Duarte. The Bees extended that lead with a run in the third on an RBI grounder by Lisson.
The Rattlers (18-27) got on the scoreboard on an RBI grounder by Curtis Ledbetter in the bottom of the fourth inning.
The scored stayed 2-1 until the top of the sixth. The first three Bee batters reached against Rattlers starting pitcher Paul Fagan. Jeff Howell drew a bases loaded walk to force in a run. Duarte followed with an RBI single. Antonio Sabatini was next and drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. The run made it 5-1 and knocked Fagan out of the game.
Rattler reliever Nick Allen did not fare much better as the replacement for Fagan. A run scored on a throwing error. Another run scored on another error. Then, Lisson crushed an 0-1 pitch from Allen over the left field wall for a homer and a 9-1 lead.
Nicoll kept the Rattler hitters off-balance and off the bases. He struck out four and did not walk a batter.
The Bees tacked on another run in the seventh on an RBI double by Josh Johnson.
Wisconsin got back on the board in the eighth inning on an RBi single by Eddy Hernandez and an RBI fielder's choice by Ron Garth. But, by then the damage had been done.
Wisconsin fell to a season low nine games below .500 with the loss.
The Rattlers are off on Wednesday before returning to action on Thursday when they take on the Kane County Cougars in Geneva, Illinois. Harold Williams (0-0. 2.12ERA) is the scheduled starter for the Rattlers. Jared Lansford (3-1, 1.17ERA) will get the call for the Cougars. Game time at Elfstrom Stadium is 6:00pm.
