Quad Cities River Bandits News Release

The Swing of the Quad Cities were quiet Tuesday night at John O'Donnell Stadium, suffering a 4-2 loss at the hands of the Clinton LumberKings. The Swing have lost seven of their last 10 games heading into Wednesday's off day, and have scuffled to an 8-15 record at home.

After losing three of four games to the LumberKings, Quad Cities (18-25) will host the Cedar Rapids Kernels for a four-game set starting Thursday night. With the win, Clinton (16-29) avenges a series earlier this year in which they dropped two of three at John O'Donnell Stadium.

Right out of the gate, the LumberKings took an early lead without recording a hit. Two walks put a pair of baserunners aboard, and a wild pitch moved them to second and third. John Mayberry's groundout advanced both runners to plate the first run of the game, and moments later the second wild pitch of the frame brought the second runner home for a 2-0 Clinton lead.

Quad Cities was not going to fold that easily, though, and fought back over the next two innings. Daniel Nelson earned a one-out walk in the bottom of the first, and moved to third on a double by Colby Rasmus. When Randy Roth grounded out to the shortstop, Nelson came home to put the Swing on the board.

One inning later it was Simon Williams leading off and swatting an opposite-field double to right in his first at-bat since rejoining the Swing of the Quad Cities. After hitting .287 while spending most of the 2005 campaign with the Swing, the University of Maine product was transferred to Quad Cities from Palm Beach earlier in the day. Williams came home to tie the score at two on a single up the middle from Chad Gabriel later in the inning.

In the sixth, the LumberKings took the lead again. Joe Kemp singled to open the frame, and moved all the way to third base when a pickoff attempt sailed wide of first base. After a groundout and a walk there were men on the corners for Terry Blunt, who pushed a bunt past the pitcher to the right side of the infield. Though not a suicide squeeze Kemp broke for the plate when the bunt was laid down, and as everybody coasted into their respective bases safely, Clinton snatched a 3-2 lead.

They would add an insurance run in the top of the ninth to put the finishing touches on their series win.

Adam Daniels (1-4) suffered the loss, watching his losing streak run to four consecutive decisions since winning his first start of the year on April 9 at Kane County. Daniels allowed three runs - two earned - on three hits in 5.1 innings, striking out four while walking three. Two wild pitches in the first inning led to Clinton's first two runs, while his throwing error on a pickoff play to first in the sixth inning led to the LumberKings' decisive tally.

Jacob Rasner (3-3) earned the win for Clinton, yielding two runs on five hits in six innings of work. Jose Marte came on for the final three outs of the ninth, capturing his second save of both the series and the season.
