Chiefs Release Seven; add Five

Johnstown, PA- Johnstown Chiefs Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Toby O'Brien announced today that they have released seven players from training camp, and five players have been added to the roster.

Forwards Mike Hanna, B.J. Stephens, Yuris Avontish, Darryl Sinclair along with defensemen Brett Kehler, Emil Danielsson, and goaltender Lou Mastromarino were all released.

Forwards Dominic Forget (Four-jay), and Steve Hildenbrand were released by the Saint John Flames (AHL). Left wing J.F. Boutin was released by the Cleveland Barons and defenseman Mike Rodrigues was released by the Portland Pirates. Hershey Bears enforcer Mike Varhaug has been assigned to the Chiefs by the AHL club. All five will be on the ice tomorrow for the Chiefs 10:00 a.m. practice.

Varhaug, 24, spent the majority of last season with the Flint Generals (UHL) where he posted 3 goals and 8 points along with 358 PIM. He also saw action in 7 games with the Hershey Bears (23 PIM), and 3 games with the Florida Everblades (ECHL).

The Chiefs open up the 2002-2003 campaign this Friday night at Dayton. The home opener will be Saturday night against the Toledo Storm at 7:30 p.m. The first 2,000 people through the gate will receive a CTC Johnstown Chiefs magnetic schedule. Season tickets are still available by calling 1-800-SLAPSHOT.
