Peoria Chiefs News Release
Dayton, OH -The Peoria Chiefs and Dayton Dragons were cancelled due to rain after the second long rain delay Thursday night with the Chiefs leading 3-0 in the fourth inning. Since the two teams do not meet again this season the game is cancelled and the stats do not count. The Chiefs win the season series 5-0 and take a seven game win streak into their series opener at South Bend on Friday night.
The Chiefs picked up right where they left off on Wednesday night against Dragons starter Lance Janke. Drew Rundle worked a full-count lead-off walk and Ryan Flaherty slammed a two-run homer to left centerfield, his 15th of the season. The homer put the Chiefs up 2-0 and gives Flaherty 55 RBI on the season while tying him for fourth in the MWL in home runs.
Chiefs' starter Jeff Beliveau ran into trouble immediate in the bottom of the first. He walked lead-off man Josh Fellhauer and gave up a single to Kevin Coddington. Carlos Mendez singled to center and Kyler Burke threw out Fellhauer at the plate for his 11th outfield assist of the season. Byron Wiley followed with a single to load the bases before Beliveau got Cody Puckett to pop-out in foul territory. With the bases still loaded, Beliveau struck out Humberto Sosa to end the inning.
After a 96 minute rain delay in the third inning, the Chiefs added to their lead in the top of the fourth. Rebel Ridling led off with a single and moved to second on an error by left fielder Alex Oliveras. He moved to second on a grounder by D.J. LeMahieu and scored on a single by Jovan Rosa. After a single by Mario Mercedes, the rains came again and the game was delayed for 61 minutes before the game was called at 10:46 p.m. EST.
The road trip continues Friday in South Bend at 7:30 p.m. EST...The Chiefs will send RH Aaron Shafer (8-6, 4.60) to the mound against Silver Hawks RH Daniel Vasquez (3-2, 4.31)...The broadcast can be heard live beginning with the pregame show at 6:15 p.m. on 96.5 FM ESPN Radio and www.peoriachiefs.com.
