Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release

FORT WAYNE, IN - The Fort Wayne TinCaps scored six times in the bottom of the fifth inning and cruised to a 9-2 win over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers at Parkview Field Thursday night. Adam Zornes had three hits, including a two-run homer that put a cap on the big inning for Fort Wayne. Wisconsin ended their six-game road trip 0-6.

Wisconsin (47-55 overall, 13-18 second half) grabbed a first inning lead on an RBI infield single with two outs by Jose Duran.

Fort Wayne (72-31, 27-6) tied the game in the bottom of the second. They had runners at first and third with no outs. Brayden Drake grounded into a 6-4-3 double play to let the runner from third base score.

The Rattlers retook the lead in the top of the fourth inning. Brock Kjeldgaard doubled with one out. Michael Vass followed with a double to make the score 2-1.

But, things fell apart for Wisconsin in the bottom of the fifth.

Daniel Robertson reached second with one out. He took first with an infield single and moved to second on the play thanks to a throwing error by Juan Sanchez. Jeff Decker followed with another infield that put runners at first and third.

Rattlers starter Trey Watten got Allen Dykstra to send a grounder to first for a potential inning ending double play. But, Kjeldgaard's throw to second pulled Sanchez off the base. Not only did Wisconsin not turn two to get out of the inning, Robertson scored to tie the game 2-2. It was about to get worse.

Watten walked Justin Baum to load the bases and Nick Tyson relieved the Rattlers starting pitcher. Twice on this road trip Tyson had entered a game with the bases loaded and he had gotten out of the jam without allowing a run. The story was a little different against the TinCaps.

Cole Figueroa drove in the go ahead run with a sacrifice fly to center. Yefri Carvajal followed with a one-hop, line drive to left-center. Rattlers outfielder Pete Fatse missed the ball on the bounce. Carvajal picked up an RBI and Baum would score all the way from first on and the play. Zornes was next and he lined a two-run homer to left for a very sudden five runs to put the TinCaps up 7-2.

The ninth saw the TinCaps add insult to injury. Their ninth place hitter Brayden Drake hit a long homer to left to leadoff the inning. Another Rattlers error allowed Robertson to reach again. He stood at second with two outs and Baum at the plate. Baum sent a bouncer down the third baseline. The ball hit the bag and bounded into left field to send Robertson home with the final run of the game.

Wisconsin is 2-13 in their last 15 games.

The Rattlers return home to start a seven-game homestand on Friday night. The Quad Cities River Bandits are in first to start a three-game series. Cody Scarpetta (2-7, 3.91) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Rattlers. Aqruimedes Nieto (2-9, 4.26) is set to start for the River Bandits.

Batman: The Dark KnightTM will be at the ballpark, throw out a first pitch, and meet with fans prior to and during the game before returning to Gotham City. Also, the first 500 fans will receive a Cody Scarpetta player magnet from Lamers Bus Lines. In addition, it is North Shore Bank Family Night. Kids 12 and under eat free! Children 14 and under may run the bases courtesy of Thedacare after the scheduled post-game fireworks display sponsored by 95.9 KISS-FM.

Game time is 7:05pm.
