
Whitecaps Prepare To Host Cedar Rapids This Weekend

COMSTOCK PARK -The West Michigan Whitecaps are set to defend their home turf when the first place Cedar Rapids Kernels roll into Fifth Third Ballpark for a three-game series.
The series begins Friday, July 31 at 7:00 p.m. It's a Wendy's Tiger Friday with former Tiger Matt Nokes. The first 1,000 fans will receive a Matt Nokes bobblehead. Gates open at 6:00 p.m. Nokes will sign autographs from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Saturday, August 1 is Star Wars Night at the ballpark presented by Kool Toyota. More than 40 characters from the movies will be on hand at the ballpark and the team will wear Star Wars-themed alternate jerseys. The first 1,000 fans will receive mini bats courtesy of Kool Toyota and a Farm Bureau Insurance fireworks show will follow the game. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Gates open at 5:00 p.m.
The series finale with Cedar Rapids is scheduled for Sunday, August 2 at 2:00 p.m. Sunday is a Helen DeVos Children's Hospital Family Day. The first 1,000 kids eat free. Fans are also welcome to play catch on the field and get autographs from the team before the game and children can run the bases after the game, courtesy of Lake Michigan Credit Union.
Sunday is also Stitch N' Pitch at the ballpark presented by Lakeshore Sewing. Fans can bring their needle projects to the game and work on them while they take in some great baseball.
The Kernels are one of the hottest teams in the Midwest League and are currently in first place in the Western Division. The Whitecaps are in second place in the Eastern Division but own the second-best record in the league. Cedar Rapids also has the third best ERA in the league and are led by workhorses Manuel Flores and Manaurys Correa, who lead the league in innings pitched.
The Whitecaps take on the Burlington Bees tonight at 7:00 p.m. Individual and group tickets are on sale and can be purchased at the West Michigan Glass Block Ticket Office at Fifth Third Ballpark, by calling the Whitecaps front office at 616-784-4131 or by visiting www.whitecapsbaseball.com.
