Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release

Fort Wayne, IN - The Fort Wayne TinCaps capitalized on Wisconsin Timber Rattlers errors in a six-run 5th inning on their way to a 9-2 win, Thursday at Parkview Field. Adam Zornes led the charge, going 3-for-4 with a double and a home run. The crowd of 7,121 pushed the TinCaps' season attendance past last year's attendance with 18 home games remaining.

Wisconsin twice led; they jumped ahead 1-0 in the top of the 1st with a two-out rally. Brett Lawrie singled up the middle and later scored on Jose Duran's infield single. The TinCaps tied it in the bottom of the 2nd. Yefri Carvajal was hit by a pitch, went to third on a single by Zornes and scored when Brayden Drake grounded into a double play.

The Timber Rattlers again took the lead in the top of the 4th on back-to-back doubles by Brock Kjeldgaard and Michael Vass. RHP Chris Fetter avoided further damage, inducing a groundout and popout to keep it a 2-1 Wisconsin lead.

Fort Wayne took the lead for good in the bottom of the 5th. Daniel Robertson reached second when the shortstop made an errant throw. Jaff Decker reached on an infield single to put runners at the corners. Allan Dykstra bounced a ball toward first which was a potential double-play ball, but the throw to second base was wild, allowing Robertson to score (tying the game) and Decker to reach second. Justin Baum walked to load the bases and Cole Figueroa lifted a sacrifice fly to give Fort Wayne a 3-2 lead. Carvajal followed with a rope to left which dropped for a single and got past the left-fielder, allowing two runs to score. With a 5-2 lead, Zornes capped the rally with a drive over the wall in left to make it 7-2.

Wisconsin never threatened after that point. The TinCaps bullpen trio of Colin Lynch, Rob Musgrave and Robert Lara combined on four hitless innings to preserve the lead. In the 8th, Drake hammered a leadoff home run and Baum hit a two-out RBI single to push the lead to 9-2.

Fetter (1-1) notched his first win with the TinCaps; Wisconsin RHP Trey Watten lost his fifth straight start to fall to 4-11. With the win, the TinCaps improved to 72-31, 27-6 in the second half as they swept the threegame series and won all six matchups against Wisconsin. The Timber Rattlers dropped to 47-54, 13-19 in the half.

The TinCaps' ten-game homestand continues Friday against the Beloit Snappers (Class-A Minnesota Twins) in a 7:05pm start. Fort Wayne RHP Erik Davis (10-4) draws the start against Beloit RHP Bobby Lanigan (7-7).
