Burlington Bees News Release
Comstock Park, MI (July 30, 2009) - The Burlington Bees led West Michigan 2-0 going to the sixth inning but allowed three runs in the sixth and lost 3-2 Thursday night. With the loss for the Bees, West Michigan took two out of three from the Bees in the series.
The Bees took an early lead scoring one run in the top of the first inning. Patrick Norris led the inning off with a walk, stole second and then moved to third on an Adrian Ortiz sacrifice. Norris then scored the Bees' first run of the day when David Wood hit a sacrifice fly to left field. The Bees added another run in the second inning. Jose Bonilla led the inning off with an infield single and moved to second on a Shawn Griffin base-hit. Both runners were then sacrificed up a base by Ryan Wood. Yeldrys Molina then reached on an error, which scored Bonilla and gave the Bees a 2-0 lead. The Bees held on to the 2-0 lead until the bottom of the sixth inning when West Michigan scored three runs to take a 3-2 lead and eventually won by that score.
Mike Lehmann got the start and pitched well. In 5.1 innings, he allowed two runs on three hits with three strikeouts and four walks. He was in line for the win when he left the game and both runs that were charged to him scored after he left the game. Riquy Pena blew the save and took the loss to move to 1-2 this season. In 2.2 innings, he allowed one run on one hit with two strikeouts and two walks.
The Bees and Whitecaps both had four hits. Bonilla and Griffin were the only Bees to have a hit as they each had two. Norris had two stolen bases in the game.
The Bees open a three-game series at Dayton Friday night. Manauris Baez is the scheduled starter. First pitch is scheduled for 6:07 and the game can be heard on News-Radio 1490 KBUR and online at www.GoBees.com. The Bees will return home for a four-game series with Quad Cities on Friday, August 7th.
