Spokane Chiefs News Release
Spokane, Wash. - The Spokane Chiefs returned home from the holiday break in a festive spirit with a hard fought 5-2 victory over new U.S. Division rival Wenatchee Wild.
The first period was a fierce back and forth affair with Owen Martin finding the net for his eighth of the season.
Dawson Cowan is up to three (!) points on the season with his second assist of the season along with Harrington recording another helper. The first period finished at 1-0 Spokane with the Chiefs leading 14-13 on shots.
The second period started with a Ben Bonni banger. The Chiefs' forward received the pass from McIsaac and slalomed through the defense, dropping a defender before deking the netminder and slotting home.
Wenatchee would answer back with a quick fire pair of goals to level the game at two goals each heading into a tense third. The Wild were on the front foot all period long recording 20 shots to Spokane's six in the frame.
Momentum shifted back in favor of Spokane in the third, with Conner Roulette sneaking a tipped puck past the goalie with his 22nd goal of the season. Will McIsaac collected his second assist of the game and Berkly Catton provided a helper as well.
Rasmus Ekström was next on the board, scoring his sixth of the season after picking up a rebound and scoring from a tight angle. Cheveldayoff mixed it up net front like he did all night long before Ekström circled around and found the twine.
Spokane finished off the game in emphatic fashion with the top line combining for all three goal involvements. Catton picked up the loose puck from Roulette before stick handling through multiple defenders and passing out front for Bertholet. The Chiefs' veteran waited for the goaltender to make his save attempt before firing into the roof of the net.
Cheveldayoff (2A), Catton (2A) and Roulette (1G, 1A) all finished the night with two points while Will McIsaac recorded three assists. Dawson Cowan made 39 saves and added an assist of his own. The Chiefs were 0-3 on the power play but 4-4 on the penalty kill. Spokane recorded 35 shots including 15 in the third. It was a chippy game with 16 total penalties called between the two teams.
The Chiefs will return to the arena for another rivalry matchup on Saturday, versus the Tri-City Americans, for Sturm Heating Family Feast. Concessions will be just $2 at select locations throughout the arena. The Spokane Chiefs Holiday Flex Pack is still available online for just a few more days.
