
Chicago to Host the Portland Thorns in Home Opener

CHICAGO - The Chicago Red Stars announced today the club will host the Portland Thorns in their home opener on Saturday, April 25 at SeatGeek Stadium.
This early-season clash is a matchup of two perennial postseason contenders. In Chicago's fifth consecutive semifinal appearance last season, they welcomed the Thorns with an NWSL Championship berth on the line. With 9,218 fans cheering on the Red Stars, Chicago came away with the 1-0 victory to send the club to their first-ever NWSL Championship.
Both the Red Stars and Thorns feature some of the National Women's Soccer League's premier players. Captaining the Red Stars is the reigning U.S. Soccer Female Player of the Year, Julie Ertz. Her Chicago teammates include reigning World Cup champions Alyssa Naeher, Morgan Brian, and Tierna Davidson. Portland's squad includes reigning World Cup champions Tobin Heath and Lindsey Horan as well as the all-time leader in international goals for both men and women, Christine Sinclair.
