Chicago Fire FC News Release
CHICAGO - Chicago Fire FC today announced that the Club has transferred forward Ignacio Aliseda to FC Lugano in the Swiss Super League. Aliseda will join FC Lugano once the European transfer window opens on Jan. 1, 2022. Per Club policy, additional terms of the deal were not disclosed.
"After many discussions with Ignacio, we were all in agreement that this was the right time for a new challenge," said Sporting Director Georg Heitz. "This move allows Ignacio to continue his development in a competitive European league, while providing us with more roster flexibility going into the 2022 MLS season. On behalf of the Fire, I'd like to thank Ignacio for his contributions over the last two seasons. We wish him all the best as he begins this exciting new chapter with our partner Club, FC Lugano."
Originally acquired by Chicago as a Young Designated Player on Feb. 19, 2020, Aliseda, 21, made 43 appearances (32 starts) in two seasons with the Fire. In 2021, he produced an MLS career-high in appearances (23), starts (16) and goals (four). Most notably, the young Argentine was named MLS Player of the Week after recording two goals and an assist in the Club's 3-0 home win over Atlanta United FC on July 3.
Prior to joining the Fire, Aliseda spent two seasons with Defensa y Justica in Argentina, making 38 appearances across all competitions. At the international level, Aliseda has been capped twice with the U-23 Argentina National Team, featuring in the team's championship run in the 2019 Pan American games.
On Aug. 18, the Fire announced Owner and Chairman Joe Mansueto's purchase of FC Lugano, forming a partnership between the two Clubs. Located in Lugano, Switzerland, FC Lugano is a 113-year-old Club, founded in 1908. The Club has played in the Swiss Super League during multiple periods in their history, most recently from 2015 to present. Over the years, Lugano has participated in European Cup Winners' Cup, UEFA Cup, UEFA Champions League Qualifiers and UEFA Europa League.
