The Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) announced today that the Club has protected 12 players in advance of the 2021 MLS Expansion Draft expected to take place on Tuesday, December 14. The Expansion Draft eligible player list included players from 22 MLS clubs. San Jose Earthquakes, New York Red Bulls, Nashville SC, LA Galaxy, and Orlando City SC are exempt, having had players selected during the 2020 MLS Expansion Draft.
MLS Homegrown Players ages 25 and under (those Born during or after 1996), as well as Generation Adidas players that did not graduate form the program at the end of 2021 are automatically protected, therefore clubs did not need to use one of their 12 selections to protect them.
Once one player is selected from a club's unprotected roster, that club is removed from the remainder of the Expansion Draft and may not have a second player selected.
