Checkers Receive Skokan And Urquhart From Hartford

Charlotte, N.C.-The Checkers announced today that the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey league have reassigned forward David Skokan and defenseman David Urquhart to Charlotte.

Skokan, 6-feet-0, 202 pounds, is a native of Poprad, Slovakia. The three year product of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League was selected in the seventh round of the 2007 National Hockey League Entry Draft by the New York Rangers. During his time in the QMJHL, he played solely for Rimouski Oceanic dressing in 158 games scoring 39 goals and 57 assists totaling 96 points.

Urquhart, 6-feet-0, 190 pounds played four seasons of Canadian Interuniversity Sports for McGill University. The Thorold, Ontario defenseman dressed in 86 games scoring 13 goals and 57 assists for 70 points with 190 penalty minutes.

"We are excited about the depth of the Checkers roster this season and adding these two young players bolsters our lineup even further," remarked general manager and head coach of the Charlotte Checkers Derek Wilkinson.

The Checkers are getting ready for their 16th season of play as a member of the ECHL. Opening night will take place on Halloween against the Augusta Lynx at a special 8 p.m. start. In the team's 15-year history, the Checkers have made the playoffs 11 times including four consecutive playoff appearances to date.
