"The LFA, Piedmont Chapter is very excited to be partnering with the Charlotte Checkers for the very first Stick It To Lupus. We believe this is an avenue for our organization to raise awareness and funds and have a ton of fun in the process," remarked Christine John of LFA Piedmont.

"We are really looking forward to starting the Checkers fundraising season with the Lupus Foundation Stick it to Lupus Night," said Checkers COO Tera Black. "The Foundation is made up of an energetic, dedicated group of individuals that are on a mission to not only raise funds for the LFA but also to empower the general public with knowledge about the disease. We are lucky to have established this relationship and hopefully we can make this event happen annually."

Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease which can be destructive to any major organ or tissue in the body. The disease can be very unpredictable and is potentially fatal, yet no satisfactory treatment or a cure exists. Approximately 1.5 million Americans and at least five million people worldwide have a form of lupus. Lupus strikes mostly females ages 15-44, although females and males of all ages can develop lupus, and African American women are 2-3 times more likely to develop lupus.
