Alaska Aces News Release

ANCHORAGE, Alaska -Lee Green scored 75 seconds into overtime to lift the Alaska Aces to a 3-2 preseason victory over South Carolina in front of 4,805 Wednesday at Sullivan Arena.

A portion of the proceeds from Alaska's preseason games will be donated to the American Cancer Society in Alaska and Breast Cancer Focus, Inc. Tomorrow's rematch against the Stingrays will start at 7:15 p.m.

Jeff Rainville scored the only goal in the first 40 minutes, giving South Carolina a 1-0 edge at the 11-minute mark of the opening fram by burying a perfect centering pass from Travis Morin on the power play. But Aces goalie Jean-Phillipe Lamoureux kept the Stingrays from extending their lead, making 27 of his 34 saves in the first two periods.

Erik Felde tied the contest with a shorthanded goal just 46 seconds into the final period, a laser from the left circle that sailed just underneath the crossbar and barely inside the right post. Paul Kelly regained the lead for the 'Rays less than five minutes later when he deflected a drive off the stick of Sasha Pokulok. The game remained 2-1 in favor of the visitors until Ed Hill found fellow defenseman Corbin Schmidt streaking down the slot for the equalizer with 3:58 left in regulation.

The winner came when Colin Hemingway (who also assisted on Schmidt's goal) dropped a pass in the slot to Green, who caught 'Rays goaltender Josh Johnson moving the other way with a wrist shot that glanced off the left post on its way home. Green scored just twice during the 2007-08 season, his first in an Aces uniform.

Alaska, now with nine wins in its last 10 preseason games over the last five years, opens the regular season at home against arch rival Las Vegas October 17 and 18 at 7:15 p.m. All games are broadcast live on the flagship home of Aces hockey, KFQD 750 AM.
