Charlotte Checkers News Release

GREENVILLE, SC – December 6, 2002 - Jonathan Roy and Tyler Deis scored a pair of goals each and Greenville scored three times in the third period to send the Charlotte Checkers down to their fifth straight loss Friday night in Greenville, SC. The Checkers had tied the game in the third period at 2-2 before yielding three straight Grrrowl goals. It was Jeff Salajko's debut in goal for the Checkers but his presence was not enough to stop the Checkers slide.

"We got a good start in the first period tonight but our defense had some lapses again and we only scored two goals on 43 shots," said Checkers Head Coach Don MacAdam. "It seems this season that some aspect of our game takes a turn each night in letting us down."

Eddie Pershin's sixth goal of the season at 3:23 staked the Checkers to a 1-0 first period lead. The Grrrowl came up with two second period goals by Deis and Roy to regain the lead at 2-1 after forty minutes. Charlotte defenseman Dan Preston tied the game at 5:45 of the third period but the Grrrowl ran off three unanswered goals including an empty-netter to win going away. The Checkers out shot Greenville 43-22.

The win was Greenville's second straight and improved their record to 11-9- 2 for 24 points. The loss dropped Charlotte's record to four games under .500 at 7-11-1 for 15 points. The Checkers will continue a three-game in three-night weekend at home Saturday night when they'll host the Greensboro Generals at 7:35 pm at Cricket Arena. Charlotte will conclude their weekend of action Sunday afternoon in Florence, SC with a 2:30 pm face-off with the Pee Dee Pride.

NOTES: The Checkers Dusty Jamieson earned an assist on Friday night to increase his point scoring streak to six games. .......Bryce Wandler was a healthy scratch for the Checkers Friday night.
