Checkers grab seven of eight points last week

CHARLOTTE, NC - The Charlotte Checkers welcomed in the second half of the season by grabbing 7-of-8 points last week. The Checkers picked up wins over Pensacola, Columbia and South Carolina. The Checkers hosted their second-largest crowd of the season as 9,852 fans were treated to an overtime game on Saturday against Greenville.

Dusty Jamieson recorded his second hat trick of the season on Tuesday in the Checkers 5-2 win over Pensacola. Jamieson's hat trick was his second of the season and the fifth by a Checkers player this season. The Checkers lead the league in hat tricks this season.

Tuesday, January 17, 2006 vs. Pensacola, W, 5-2 The Charlotte Checkers snapped a four-game skid with a 5-3 win over the Pensacola Ice Pilots Tuesday night in front of 4,511 fans at St. Lawrence Homes Home Ice at Charlotte Bobcats Arena. Charlotte's Dusty Jamieson turned in his second hat trick of the month as he pushed his point total to 35 on the season which leads the team.

Charlotte scored the first two goals of the game late in the first period. Nathan Gillies, in his first game back from the injured reserve list, scored his eighth goal of the season at the 16:14 mark of the first period. Jamieson followed up with a power play goal at the 18:28 mark.

Friday, January 20, 2006 @ Columbia, W, 5-3 Dusty Jamieson continued his torrid scoring with a pair of goals and two assists for four points, and Brandon Cullen chipped in with a pair of tallies as the Charlotte Checkers beat the Columbia Inferno 5-3 Friday night in Columbia. Nathan Gillies scored the other Checkers goal in the victory.

The Checkers scored three straight goals in the third period, including two short-handed goals within 20 seconds on the same Inferno power play. Charlotte sealed the victory with an empty-net goal in the final minute.

Saturday, January 21, 2006 vs. Greenville, L-OT, 2-3 The Greenville Grrrowl defeated the Charlotte Checkers 3-2 in overtime Saturday night in front of 9,852 fans at St. Lawrence Homes Home Ice at Charlotte Bobcats Arena. The Grrrowl scored twice early in the third period to tie the game at 2-2, and Krys Barch scored the game-winner at the 2:08 mark of the overtime.

Sunday, January 22, 2006 vs. South Carolina, W, 4-2 The Charlotte Checkers defeated the South Carolina Stingrays 4-2 Sunday in front of 4,012 fans at the St. Lawrence Homes Home Ice at Charlotte Bobcats Arena. Luke Stauffacher scored two goals to help the Checkers head into the All-Star break with a win.
