
Bennefield Shines In All-Star Skills Competition

FRESNO, Calif. - San Diego Gulls rookie winger Jesse Bennefield shined Tuesday night during the 2006 ECHL All-Star Skills Competition presented by Bud Light. Bennefield won the Reebok Hockey Fastest Skater competition and also scored twice in the Reebok Hockey Rapid Fire contest. The All-Star game will be held Wednesday night at the Save Mart Center, home of the Fresno Falcons.
In the Reebok Hockey Fastest Skater competition, Bennefield's lap around the ice was clocked at 14.576 seconds, beating Florida's Chris Lee, who clocked in at 14.747 seconds. He and Stockton's Mike Lalonde each scored twice in the Reebok Rapid Fire contest against Johnstown's Jonathon Boutin. Bennefield also participated in the Reebok Hockey Breakaway Relay, but was stopped by Wheeling goaltender Andy Franck.
