Sacramento River Cats News Release

RENO, Nev. - The River Cats used a nine-strikeout performance from Jesse Chavez on Monday night at Aces Ballpark, fighting through a snow delay to complete the four-game series sweep with a 7-3 victory over their interdivision rivals.

In a series that saw Sacramento score 53 runs over the first three games, Chavez's performance was the difference Monday night. The right-hander struck out nine without issuing a walk, allowing just two earned runs and six hits. Mike Ekstrom tossed the final two innings to earn his second save of the season.

Michael Choice hit his third home run in the past two days-all three of which went to the opposite field-and finished 2-for-2 with two walks, three RBIs and two runs scored. Josh Horton added two singles and an RBI for the River Cats, who head to Las Vegas Tuesday riding a five-game winning streak.

The loss fell to Aces reliever Eury de la Rosa (0-1), who balked in the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh inning. Reno starter Randall Delgado took a no decision after allowing just two runs on four hits in 5.1 innings.

The game was delayed eight minutes in the middle of the eighth inning when a snowstorm passed through the area.

Sacramento opens a four-game series with the Las Vegas 51s on Tuesday evening, when Dan Straily (1-0, 1.59 ERA) will face right-hander Collin McHugh (2-0, 0.73 ERA) in a battle between two of the Pacific Coast League's top pitchers. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. from Cashman Field in Las Vegas.

The River Cats return home on April 20 for an eight-game homestand against the Reno Aces and Salt Lake Bees.
