Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
Royals outfielder Brian Goodwin drove in three runs as part of his Major League Rehab Assignment, including a game-tying two-run double as part of a four-run eighth frame, while Omaha third baseman Humberto Arteaga drove across two runs of his own and shortstop Nicky Lopez extended his hit streak to 12 with three knocks in the Storm Chasers' 7-6 comeback win over the Iowa Cubs in front of 6,517 fans on Monday night at Werner Park.
Chicago Cubs All-Star third baseman Kris Bryant reached base twice for Iowa as part of his Major League Rehab Assignment, though he did not tally a base hit. Lopez (3-5) and RF Donnie Dewees (3-4, 2 R) paced the Omaha offense with three hits each, while Goodwin (2-4, R, 2 2B, 3 RBI, BB) and Arteaga (2-3, R, 2 RBI, BB) added multiple knocks as well. Cubs SS Mike Freeman (2-4, R, 2B, 3 RBI, BB) was the lone batter from his side to record a multi-hit effort.
Entering the last of the eighth trailing 6-3, Omaha mounted a comeback that featured six hits. Arteaga drove in his second run of the contest with a single to right prior to coming across along with Dewees on Goodwin's clutch two-out two-bagger that evened the contest at 6-6. Goodwin then was brought plateward on DH Jorge Soler's single to cap the comeback.
The Storm Chasers also started the scoring by taking advantage of a pair of bases-loaded walks in the second. The Cubs, however, roared back with four tallies in the fourth to snag a two-run advantage, increasing the margin to three with a score in the fifth. After Arteaga drove in his first run with a knock in the sixth, Iowa answered right back in the seventh to keep the margin at three prior to the Storm Chasers' comeback efforts.
Omaha righty Pedro Fernandez (2.0 IP, 2 H, R, ER, 2 BB, 3 K) earned the victory, with relievers Sam Selman (0.2 IP, BB) and Jason Adam (0.1 IP, BB) notching a hold and save, respectively. Cubs right-hander Anthony Bass (1.0 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 4 ER) suffered the defeat. Neither Storm Chasers starter Arnaldo Hernandez (6.0 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 3 K), nor Iowa's Tyler Chatwood (4.1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 5 BB, 3 K) factored in the final decisions.
The Storm Chasers begin their final home series of 2018 on Tuesday evening against the Colorado Springs Sky Sox, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. CT. Omaha is anticipated to give the nod to LHP Jake Kalish (6-6, 3.58), while the Sky Sox are slated to send RHP Alec Asher (6-3, 5.54) to the hill.
Tickets are still available for all remaining 2018 Storm Chasers contests, and may be purchased at www.omahastormchasers.com/tickets as well as by calling the Werner Park Ticket Office at (402) 738-5100.
