Chasers Cannot Come Back Twice in 6-4 Loss
June 21, 2013 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
OMAHA, Neb. - The Omaha Storm Chasers (31-41) rallied from an early 4-1 deficit, but when the Albuquerque Isotopes (42-33) grabbed a late 6-4 lead the Chasers' second comeback bid fell just short as they dropped the fourth contest of the five-game set. Omaha has lost six of their last eight games and are a season-low ten games under .500.
Trailing 6-4 entering the ninth inning, middle infielders Irving Falu and Johnny Giavotella led off the inning with singles then third baseman Xavier Nady lined in to a double play which appeared to deflate the final frame rally. After designated hitter Max Ramirez walked he was replaced by MLB Rehabber Jarrod Dyson, who promptly stole second to place the tying runs in scoring position. Adam Moore, who had a three-run homer already in the game, grounded out to second base and the throw by Elevys Gonzalez nearly pulled first baseman Rusty Ryal off the bag with Dyson already halfway home but Ryal stabbed his foot back to first to end the game.
Left-hander Danny Duffy made his third appearance with the Storm Chasers as a part of his MLB Rehab, as well as his first appearance at Werner Park since July 2011, and allowed four runs over 4.2 innings in his longest of his seven rehab starts with Double-A Northwest Arkansas and Omaha. Duffy allowed three first inning runs on back-to-back doubles with two outs to Chili Buss and Brian Barden, but retired the next seven batters he faced before allowing a run in the fourth. In ten innings total with the Chasers, Duffy has totaled ten strikeouts with five on the night.
The early 4-1 hole for Omaha was erased by a no-doubter three-run shot by Moore in the fifth inning, giving him eight on the season to tie him with fellow catchers Ramirez and Brett Hayes for second most on the team. Moore has hit five homers at Werner Park this season in 16 games, accounting for half of his hits at home. In the month of June he has totaled ten RBI and five extra-base hits in eight games, after he had accumulated seven extra-base hits and 12 RBI in his first 24 games of the season in April and May.
The loss drops the Chasers to four games out of first place, as the Iowa Cubs took over the top spot in the American Northern Division with a win and a Memphis loss on the night. In the final game of the series with Albuquerque, Royals top prospect Yordano Ventura (1-1, 4.30) will make his fourth career Triple-A appearance, and in his lone start at Werner Park on June 6 the young flamethrower allowed only one hit in five innings. Ventura will face off with former Storm Chaser Blake Johnson (6-3, 3.10) with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
