
Rainiers Fall Short At Colorado Springs, 12-11

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Tacoma Rainiers surrendered eight unanswered runs over the game's final four innings in a 12-11 loss to the Colorado Springs Sox at Security Service Field on Thursday night.
Tacoma held an 11-4 advantage before home runs hit by Greg Golson and Charlie Culberson bookended a six-run inning for the Sky Sox in the sixth. Ben Paulsen's sacrifice fly tied the game at 11-11 in the eighth, and Hernan Iribarren's RBI single completed Colorado Springs' comeback with one out in the ninth.
Carlos Peguero provided Tacoma's primary of source of power on a night when the Rainiers hit a combined four home runs. The outfielder's solo shot gave Tacoma a 1-0 edge in the second, and he went deep again with a two-run blast in the fifth.
Peguero has homered five times and driven in 20 runs over his first 10 appearances during the Rainiers current 12-game road trip. He now has 13 home runs and 51 RBI through 55 games with Tacoma this season.
Franklin Gutierrez contributed a three-run home run in the fourth inning, his third homer with the Rainiers, and ended the night going 2-for-5 with two runs scored and three RBI. Outfielder Abraham Almonte added a two-run blast in the sixth.
Reliever Brian Moran (2-3) was dealt the loss after surrendering the game-tying and go-ahead runs on four hits over 1.1 innings of work in the eighth and ninth. Starter Hector Noesi allowed eight runs on 10 hits over 5.0 innings in his fourth turn in the Rainiers rotation.
The Rainiers (44-31) play the final game of the team's four-game series at Colorado Springs at 6:05 p.m. tomorrow, June 21. Right-hander Brian Sweeney (7-2, 3.81) is slated to start for Tacoma against Sky Sox left-hander Drew Pomeranz (7-1, 4.35).
