It will be another historic night in the Queen City, as Charlotte FC host and play against European giant Chelsea FC. The Blues are touring the USA as part of their preseason preparations for the approaching Premier League season.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, Charlotte are in the middle of an intense playoff race in their inaugural MLS season so a friendly could serve as a nice change of pace for the team. However, in addition to the focus on having fun, the team is also approaching it as a learning experience.
"This is a great game to play for the card for the club, to play one of the best teams in the world with some of the best players in the world," said Charlotte FC's interim head coach Christian Lattanzio. "And so it's a dual situation where we are, we want to try certain things but at the same time, also enjoy the moment of meeting one of the best clubs in the world, one of the best teams in the world."
It will be a rare opportunity for the team to test themselves against some of the biggest stars in the world. But most importantly, it will be an unforgettable experience for fans who get to see their local team clash against an established side.
Players to Watch
Kerwin Vargas: His first touches for the Club against the Vancouver Whitecaps had all of Bank of America Stadium on their feet. With his recent lack of playing time, the electric winger will be buzzing to once again make an impression on the pitch.
CLTFC Academy Players: Low stake friendlies like these are often opportunities for young players to get their first minutes for their club. It isn't unusual that academy players We'll see if any of Charlotte FC's Academy players get this chance.
Christian Pulisic: America's golden boy and Chelsea's number 10 will be in the building, and not for the first time. Pulisic played at Bank of America Stadium with his old team, Borussia Dortmund, back in 2018 against Liverpool.
Raheem Sterling: Chelsea's latest marquee signing, the English international has joined Chelsea from Manchester City and will make his debut in a Chelsea kit against Charlotte.
