Real Salt Lake News Release

HERRIMAN, Utah - Real Salt Lake has declined to extend the loan option for SK Beveren (Belgian A2) DF Chris Kablan, who arrived in Utah 10 weeks ago to provide depth on RSL's back line. Kablan appeared in two MLS contests for RSL, playing a total of 25 minutes. For Real Monarchs in MLS NEXT Pro action, the Swiss-born Kablan started three games, playing a total of 225 minutes.

"We're extremely happy to have Chris back," said Antoine Gobin, CEO of SK Beveren. "We think he'll be able to take back up the challenge of being a part of Wim's squad this season, and we're lucky to have him come back in our Yellow-Blue ranks."

Kablan's early Summer signing had marked the second player arrival to Real Salt Lake from Owner David Blitzer's growing football network, following FW Sergio Cordova's arrival in February from FC Augsburg (German Bundesliga). Blitzer boasts interests in six European soccer entities, including Crystal Palace (England), FC Augsburg (Germany), Estoril (Portugal), ADO Den Haag (Netherlands), Alcorcón (Spain) and SK Beveren (Belgium).

"We are grateful to Chris for his time, effort and diligence here in Salt Lake this Summer," said Real Salt Lake General Manager Elliot Fall, now in his 15th year with the Club. "We wish him the best in his return to Beveren, and in his future endeavors."

Through the first 21 games of the 2022 MLS campaign, Real Salt Lake (9-6-6, 33 pts, 3rd West) is unbeaten at home, with seven wins and three draws to capture 24 of a possible 30 points on Utah soil. Only Philadelphia (6-0-5) is unbeaten at home this year, while only LAFC (8-1-2) has more home points (26 to RSL's 24). The Claret-and-Cobalt have also sold out each of its 10 home games thus far this season, the first time in the Club's 18-year history that 10 consecutive 20,000+ crowds have accrued at any point in a campaign.

Head Coach Pablo Mastroeni has utilized 24 different starters and 28 different players throughout the injury-filled first half of the year, as the Club has lost nearly 150 combined games due to injury, suspension or international duty.

During the 35-game Mastroeni era, Real Salt Lake has dropped back-to-back games just once, with a 9-1-3 (W-L-T) "bounceback" record in games following losses. At its Rio Tinto Stadium home, RSL is 11-2-3 (W-L-T) under Mastroeni since last September. RSL will return home this Saturday, July 23, hosting FC Dallas for Pioneer Day Weekend Fireworks in the penultimate game of a crowded six-match July. Tickets are available for what should be the Club's 11th consecutive sellout at www.RSL.com/tickets.
