
Charlie Zink Named Eastern League Pitcher of the Week

Portland Sea Dogs right-handed pitcher Charlie Zink has been named the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the week of June 18 - 24. Major League Baseball Advanced Media (MLBAM) made the selection.
Zink made two starts during the week, both resulting in wins for the right-hander. On June 19th Zink tossed a nine-inning complete game at Connecticut, giving up six hits and one run while striking out a season-high eight. The last nine inning complete game by a Sea Dogs pitcher was on August 1, 2005 by Jon Lester. On June 24th, Zink picked-up his second win of the week hurling six innings allowing two runs on five hits, three walks and no strikeouts. This marked his 20th career win with the Sea Dogs.
Zink has appeared in 11 games with the Sea Dogs this year, posting a 7-2 record with a 2.28 ERA. Zink ranks second in the league in ERA and is tied for third in wins. His seven wins leads the team and is tied with Kason Gabbard for the most wins amongst Red Sox farmhands this season. Zink is tied for seventh in franchise history with 20 career wins and is tied for second on the all-time list for wins as a Red Sox affiliate.
The 27-year old Zink, from El Dorado Hills, California was signed by the Boston Red Sox as a minor league free agent on April 1, 2002. The last Sea Dog to earn Pitcher of the Week honors was Tommy Hottovy August 28-September 4, 2006.
