Augusta GreenJackets News Release
Charleston, SC - The Charleston RiverDogs held the Augusta GreenJackets to just five hits, picking up a pair of seventh-inning runs in a 4-2 victory over the GreenJackets in the series opener between the two teams on Friday night at Joseph P. Riley Park in Charleston. The loss snaps the GreenJackets eight-game winning streak in series opening games.
With the bases loaded on three straight singles off GreenJackets reliever Mario Rodriguez to open the seventh, a double play ball brought the go-ahead run home to give Charleston a 3-2 edge. J.R. Murphy followed with a run-scoring double to push the RiverDogs' advantage to two.
The RiverDogs wasted no time jumping out to an early lead after the GreenJackets left the bases loaded in the first inning. Augusta starter Austin Fleet allowed three singles in the inning, with the middle one coming from Ramon Flores to drive in the first run of the game. Augusta tied the game in the third on their first hit of the game - a solo homer from Adam Duvall to knot things at one apiece. Duvall's blast is his seventh in the last two weeks.
Charleston struck back in the fourth as Fleet walked the bases loaded before heading to the showers after lasting just 3.2 innings in his shortest start off the year. A groundout off reliever Brett Bochy allowed the go-ahead run to score in the fourth. Bochy got out of the inning without allowing further damage.
Augusta tied things again in the fifth as Carlos Willoughby doubled with one out and Ehire Adrianza drove him home with a run-scoring single to tie things at two.
The GreenJackets were shut down over the final four innings by lefty Kramer Sneed (3-4), who allowed just two hits and didn't walk anyone while striking out three. Rodriguez (0-4) took the loss in relief for Augusta.
The GreenJackets will look to snap their current three-game losing skid on Saturday with Shawn Sanford (1-3, 2.93) taking the mound for Augusta to face Jose Ramirez (1-1, 8.00). First pitch from Charleston comes at 7:05 with pregame coverage beginning at 6:50 on WRDW-AM 1630 and online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com.
The GreenJackets return home to open a four-game series with the Savannah Sand Gnats on Wednesday May 25th as they close in on their one-millionth fan under Ripken Baseball ownership. That lucky fan will win a trip for four to Disneyworld, courtesy of Augusta Vascular Center. First pitch will come at 7:05 next Wednesday.
Single-game and Season Tickets are currently available by calling the GreenJackets front office at 706-922-WINS while further information can be found online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com.
