December 6, 2014 - NBA G League (G League)
Cleveland Charge News Release
The Canton Charge (4-4), presented by SecureData 365 and powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers, had their three-game win streak snapped at the hands of the Fort Wayne Mad Ants (4-5), 104-85, at the Memorial Civic Center on Saturday night.
The Charge came into tonight with three-straight games of 50%+ shooting as a team, and continued their hot hand in the first half by hitting 18-of-34 shots as a unit (53%). Fort Wayne combatted the barrage by forcing 12 Canton turnovers resulting in 13 points, while surrendering the ball just three times of their own for three points. The Mad Ants used those extra chances to hang tough and hold a 51-44 lead at intermission.
The Mad Ant defense clamped down in the third quarter by forcing seven more Charge turnovers resulting in six points while stifling the Canton shooting attack for just 4-of-14 attempts (29%). Fort Wayne netted 18 of their 27 quarter points in the paint, led by as many as 17, and took a commanding 78-64 lead into the game's final frame.
The visitors led the rest of the way, with their three NBA players on assignment who saw action (Muscala- ATL, Rice Jr.- WAS, Smith- NO) combining for 41 points. Fort Wayne finished forcing 29 Canton turnovers that resulted in 33 points. The Mad Ants came into tonight's game with the second-ranked scoring defense in the D-League, allowing 95.8 points per game.
Arinze Onuaku posted his fourth double-double in as many appearances as he has made so far this season, with 10 points and 11 rebounds in 30 minutes. Alex Kirk posted 21 points on 7-of-13 shooting with seven boards, and one block in 33 minutes on assignment from the Cleveland Cavaliers. Brandon Paul poured in a season-high 17 points with four rebounds, and one block in 25 minutes. Stephen Holt added 15 points and eight rebounds in 32 minutes.
Andre Emmett paced the Mad Ants with 21 points, four rebounds, and three assists in 29 minutes. The New Orleans Pelicans' Russ Smith netted 20 points on 7-of-16 shooting in 22 minutes, while the Atlanta Hawks' Mike Muscala added 13 points and six rebounds in 24 minutes.
