
D-Fenders Fall Short to Warriors at Home

EL SEGUNDO, CA - The Los Angeles D-Fenders fell to the Santa Cruz Warriors, 112-98 tonight in El Segundo.
Vander Blue led the D-Fenders (1-8) with 21 points, shooting 7-of-10 from the field. Roscoe Smith (19 points, 15 rebounds) recorded his sixth double-double of the season and has scored in double-figures in every game this season. Manny Harris (14 points, four assists) and Jamario Moon (11 points, six rebounds) also eclipsed the 10-point mark.
Joe Alexander scored a game-high 34 points, shooting 14-of-22 from the field, while also grabbing nine rebounds for the Warriors (5-3).Elliot Williams followed suit with 27 points, 12 assists and nine rebounds for Santa Cruz. James Michael McAdoo (12 points, seven rebounds) and Sean Kilpatrick (10 points) also scored in double digits.
The first quarter was a battle, ending in a 26-26 stalemate. Smith came out on a tear for the D-Fenders, with nine points and eight rebounds on the quarter. Williams finished with nine points for the Warriors. It was a slow second quarter, with the D-Fenders scoring a season-low 15 points while Santa Cruz finished with 35 points on the quarter. Turnovers were a killer for Los Angeles, who turned the ball over 11 times in the first half, compared to just two for Santa Cruz. The Warriors would take a 61-41 lead into the break.
Los Angeles found their rhythm in the third quarter, outscoring the Warriors 33-26 and totaling four turnovers, while forcing six for Santa Cruz. Smith had eight points on the quarter, while Blue finished with seven for the D-Fenders. Williams scored nine points for Santa Cruz and was followed by Sean Williams with eight points of his own. Los Angeles entered the fourth trailing 87-74. Blue scored 10 points in the quarter for Los Angeles, but the D-Fenders would come up short, falling 112-98 to the Warriors.
Los Angeles shot .419 from the field, compared to .465 for Santa Cruz. The Warriors dished out 31 assists; 11 more than the 20 handed out by the D-Fenders. The early turnovers hurt Los Angeles, who finished with 18 team turnovers, while the Warriors finished with 10.
The D-Fenders are back in action tomorrow night to host the Reno Bighorns at 6:30 pm PT.
