Manchester Monarchs News Release
BRIDGEPORT, CT â Goaltender Wade Dubielewicz stopped 40 shots to lift the Bridgeport Sound Tigers over the Manchester Monarchs, 2-1, before a crowd of 5,232 at the Arena at Harbor Yard on Saturday night.
The Monarchs, with a record of 50-21-4-4 and 108 points, need just one point in their final game against the Worcester IceCats on Sunday to claim their first-ever Atlantic Division and Eastern Conference championships. The second place Hartford Wolf Pack, 50-23-3-3 and 106 points, beat the Springfield Falcons on Saturday night to push the division and championship decision to the final game of the year. To wrap up first place in the division and first place in the conference, the Monarchs need just one more point (two points for a win; one point for an overtime loss or a shootout loss) or one loss (regulation, overtime or shootout) by the Wolf Pack on Sunday.
Right wing George Parros put the Monarchs on the board as he poked in his 14th of the season, a power play goal at 18:02 of the first period. Center Michael Cammalleri shot the puck from the right point and Parros was able to sneak the rebound past Dubielewicz. Defenseman Denis Grebeshkov also assisted.
The Sound Tigers tied the game with a breakaway goal from right wing Nathan Gillies at 9:29 of the second period. Center Jean Desrochers received the lone assist on Gillies second goal of the season.
Right wing Barrett Heisten scored the game-winning goal, his seventh of the year, by shoveling in defenseman Chris Campoli's shot from the slot past Monarchs goaltender Adam Hauser at the 15-minute mark of the second period. Left wing Steve Regier assisted on the game-winner.
Dubielewicz improved to 17-23-1 on the year with the win. Hauser (19-11-0) took the loss, his 11th of the season, stopping 18 Bridgeport shots.
Saturday's game marked the fourth and final meeting between the teams. In the four games, the Monarchs posted a record of 1-2-1-0.
The Monarchs close out the 2004-05 regular season on Sunday night against the IceCats at the DCU Center with the face-off scheduled for 4:05 p.m.
