Binghamton Senators News Release
Denis Hamel recorded his second hat trick of the season as the Binghamton Senators won the East Division for the second time in three seasons before another sell out crowd at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.
After a scoreless first period in which the Bears out shot Binghamton by a margin of 18-11, the Sens got on the board 5:43 into the middle frame. Denis Hamel picked up his 37th tally of the season to give his club the 1-0 lead.
Binghamton then scored their league leading 24th short-handed goal of the year when Josh Langfeld scored for the Sens at the 12:26 mark of the second period.
Hamel would score his second goal of the evening less than three minutes later to give the Sens a 3-0 lead heading into the final period. Hamel's power-play goal was assisted by Brandon Bochenski and AHL Most Valuable Player Jason Spezza.
The Sens extended their lead to 4-0 just 52 seconds into the final stanza when Andy Hedlund picked up his second goal of the year. Hamel and Jesse Fibiger were given the assists on the goal. Shortly thereafter Hamel scored his third of the game to finish the season with a professional career-high 39 goals. The goal was assisted by Antoine Vermette and Brian McGrattan.
Goalie Ray Emery made 37 saves on 39 shots for his 28th victory of the season; also a new professional career high.
