Bears fall 5-2 in Binghamton, Sens win East Division

Binghamton finishes the regular season with a 5-2 win over HERSHEY and an East Division Championship in front of a sellout crowd at Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.

The teams battled to a scoreless first period, with HERSHEY outshooting Binghamton 18-12. The Senators began the scoring at the 5:43 mark of the second period when Denis Hamel scored his 37th goal of the season. Binghamton then took a 2-0 lead at the 12:26 mark when Josh Langfeld scored a short-handed goal from Antoine Vermette. Late in the period, Hamel scored his second of the game when he found the back of the net at the 15:10 mark. Jason Spezza assisted on the goal to extend his point streak to 20 games in a row. The Sens outshot HERSHEY 17-8 in the second period and led 3-0 after two.

In the third period, Andy Hedlund scored early in the third to make the score 4-0. Hamel finished a hat trick to make the score 5-0 at the 4:33 mark. Ryan Steeves and Mike Souza scored third period goals to finish off the scoring.

The BEARS will conclude the 2004-05 season on Sunday at Bridgeport against the Sound Tigers. Face-off at the Arena at Harbor Yard is set for 4:05 p.m.
