Corpus Christi Hooks News Release
CORPUS CHRISTI - Miguel Ullola struck out 12 over six sterling innings Friday night, but the Sod Poodles rallied for a 3-2 victory over the Hooks before 4,325 fans at Whataburger Field.
Achieving career bests in innings and strikeouts, Ullola yielded just four hits and one walk while throwing 57 of 80 pitches for strikes.
Jacob Melton put Corpus Christi in front with a two-run home run in the first inning.
A.J. Vukovich leveled the score with a two-run blast in the fourth before the Amarillo pulled ahead on a lead-off homer by Tim Tawa in the sixth.
Following Ullola's exit, Brayan De Paula struck out three against two singles in two scoreless innings.
Alejandro Torres pitched a 1-2-3 ninth in his Double-A debut.
Thanks to a J.C. Correa single and a walk by Tommy Sacco Jr., plus a wild pitch, the Hooks managed to put the tying and go-ahead runs in scoring position with two away in the ninth. Kenedy Corona sent a low line drive into shallow right field, but Kristian Robinson rushed in for the catch to end the ballgame.
