Tri-City ValleyCats News Release

TROY, NY - Drew Ferguson went 3-for-4 with three runs batted in, and hit his third home run in the last six days, as the Tri-City ValleyCats defeated the Lowell Spinners on Bark in the Park Night at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium, on Monday night.

After battling their way to a 14-inning victory the night before, the 'Cats jumped out to an early lead against the Spinners in this game, scoring three runs in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Dexture McCall, and a two-run single by Kolbey Carpenter.

Tri-City then broke the game open in the fifth frame, when Anthony Hermelyn hit an RBI single to left field, and Ferguson hit a three-run homer to left-center field, as the ValleyCats jumped out on top by the score of 7-0.

The strong offensive game for Ferguson came on the same day that he was named New York-Penn League Hitter of the Week for games spanning from June 29, to July 5. During that time, the Knoxville, Tenn., native went 8-for-18, with three doubles, two home runs, three runs batted in, and five runs scored.

On the mound, 'Cats pitcher Dean Deetz kept the Spinners bats at bay, as the right-hander pitched five scoreless innings to earn the win. He also struck out three batters, allowed only one hit.

Deetz's pitching performance was more than enough to support Tri-City's offense, as a total of three 'Cats posted multi-hit games, including Ferguson, Carpenter (2-4 with two runs batted in), and Bobby Wernes (2-2 with two walks). Also, all nine Tri-City batters reached base at least once.

With the victory, the ValleyCats completed their series against the Spinners by taking two out of three games, and concluded their six-game homestand with a record of four wins, and two losses. The win also brought Tri-City's overall winning percentage back to .500, with a record of 8-8.

Following a day off on Tuesday, the ValleyCats will head to Western Pennsylvania to begin a six-game road trip starting with three games against the Williamsport Crosscutters, before traveling to State College, Pa., to take on the State College Spikes.

When the road trip kicks off at 7:05pm on Tuesday in Williamsport, RHP Harold Arauz (0-1, 7.71) will be on the mound for Tri-City, while RHP Luke Leftwich (0-0, 3.38) projected to get the start for the Crosscutters.
