Lowell Spinners News Release
TROY, NY - The Tri-City ValleyCats scored three in the fourth and four in the fifth to jump out to a 7-0 lead that the Lowell Spinners could not overcome, falling to the ValleyCats, 7-4, Monday night at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium.
Tri-City (9-9) broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning. After a leadoff single, the ValleyCats attempted to sacrifice the runner over and Danny Rosenbaum threw the ball away, putting the first two runners on. A double play set Rosenbaum up to escape the inning, but Dexture McCall singled in a run and a Kolbey Carpenter single up the middle plated a pair to put the ValleyCats ahead, 3-0.
The ValleyCats would chase Rosenbaum in the fifth inning while extending their lead. After a leadoff walk, stolen base and bunt single put runners at the corners, Anthony Hermelyn singled home another run bringing Daniel Gonzalez out of the bullpen. After a strikeout to the first batter he faced Drew Ferguson hit a no-doubter to left field to put Tri-City ahead, 7-0.
Lowell (12-6) broke through in the seventh inning, taking advantage of a lead-off walk by Mitch Gunsolus. Back-to-back singles by Tucker Tubbs and Hector Lorenzana brought home the Spinners first run. A one-out bunt single by Luis Alexander Basabe would load the bases and a wild run would bring home Lorenzana. A Henry Ramos sacrifice fly cut the deficit to 7-3.
The Spinners would try to make things interesting in the ninth after Tubbs hit his first professional home run to lead off the ninth inning, but Lowell went in order from there for a 7-4 final.
Making his fourth rehab start, Rosenbaum failed to get out of the fifth inning, being charged with six runs on eight hits and a pair of walks. He struck out one. Gonzalez allowed both inherited runners from Rosenbaum to score, but was charged with just one run on three hits. He walked two and struck out seven over four innings of relief.
Tubbs led the way offensively, going 2-for-3 with the home run. Ramos also picked-up a two-hit game, driving in a run in the loss.
The Spinners return to Lowell where they will enjoy an off-day as they await a visit from the West Virginia Blackbears, the first in franchise history, to start a prolonged homestand Wednesday night at 7:05pm.
