Vermont Lake Monsters News Release

NORWICH, CT --- One day after three Lake Monsters combined on a three-hit shutout in a 6-0 win at Connecticut, three Tiger pitchers combined on a five-hit shutout on Monday night to lead Connecticut to a 7-0 New York-Penn League victory over Vermont at Dodd Stadium.

Starter Trey Teakell (1-0) allowed just two hits over his five innings of work and retired the final 12 batters that he faced after giving up a Seth Brown leadoff single in the second inning. Nate Fury worked around two hits over his two scoreless innings, while Jake Shull one hit in the final two innings as the Lake Monsters were blanked for the second time this season.

The Tigers got all the runs they would need in the first inning off Vermont starter Jonnie Massad (1-2), including a Will Allen RBI double. Brett Pirtle gave Connecticut a 5-0 lead in the third inning on a two-run homer off Massad, who allowed five runs (four earned) on five hits with three strikeouts over five innings.

Five different Lake Monsters had one hit in the game including a Mikey White double, his sixth of the season. Victor Padron was 2-for-3 with three runs scored for Connecticut (9-8), while Pirtle was 2-for-4 with two runs and Joey Havrilak was 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Vermont had entered the game having scored six runs in each of its last three games and 29 total runs over the first five games of the roadtrip, which ended with the Lake Monsters losing two-of-three games at both Tri-City and Connecticut. Vermont is now 0-5 in the third game of its five three-game series this season.

After an off day on Tuesday, Vermont (6-11) will return to historic Centennial Field on Wednesday night against the Mahoning Valley in the first game of a six-game homestand against the Scrappers and West Virginia Black Bears through Monday, July 13th. The first 500 fans through the gate on Wednesday will receive a Sport Water Bottle sponsored by Bobble.
