West Sacramento, Calif. - Sacramento infielder Cliff Pennington will represent the River Cats and the Oakland A's in the 10th annual Major League Baseball Futures Game, to be played July 13th at Yankee Stadium in New York, NY. The game, which is part of Major League Baseball's All-Star Weekend and is played two days prior to the Major League All-Star Game, pits many of the top American-born prospects in the game against young stars from around the world. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN2 (first pitch is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. PDT).

Pennington will be one of three A's prospects to play in the game, joining Stockton pitcher Henry Rodriguez and Midland pitcher Trevor Cahill (who will pitch for the World and U.S. teams, respectively).

Primarily a shortstop, Pennington has played both short and second base for the River Cats this season. A first round selection by the A's in the 2005 Amateur Draft, he joined the Cats after being promoted from Double-A Midland on May 30. The native of Corpus Christi, Texas, played his collegiate ball at Texas A&M University. Pennington's stats with the River Cats this season:
