
Bankston's slam and late-game single keys Cats' 6-5 win

West Sacramento, Calif. - Sacramento infielder Wes Bankston hit his second grand slam of the season and later singled in the go-ahead run in the eighth inning as the River Cats defeated the Tucson Sidewinders 6-5 at Raley Field on Thursday night. Sacramento trailed 4-0 in the fourth inning when Bankston tied the game with a grand slam to left field. With the bases loaded for him again in the bottom of the eighth and the game knotted at 5-5, Bankston delivered with an RBI single to give the River Cats the one-run advantage. Bankston finished 2-for-4 with 5 RBIs and a run scored. Left-handed reliever Jerry Blevins entered in the ninth to earn his 10th save of the season. Brooks Conrad was 1-for-2 with two walks and scored two runs for Sacramento. River Cats starter Kirk Saarloos threw 5.0 innings, allowing four earned runs on five hits and struck out six in the no-decision.
