Cats edge Pelicans 7-6

PENSACOLA, Fla - Pat O'Sullivan's eighth inning single scored Brian Fryer and lifted the Cats over the Pelicans 7-6 on Saturday night at Pelican Park.

The win snapped the Cats' three-game losing streak and was the team's 40th victory of the 2009 season.

Fort Worth took a 4-0 lead with a run in the first and three runs in the third inning. The Pelicans would rally with leadoff home runs in the third and fourth innings by Dallas Christison and Antoin Gray, respectively.

Leading 4-2, the Cats extended their lead in the fifth when John Allen started the fifth with a solo homer, his 11th of the season. Later in the inning Isa Garcia's second sacrifice fly of the night made it 6-2.

The Pelicans narrowed the lead to 6-5 in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single by Lester Contreras and a two-run single by Adam Darby. They tied the game in the seventh on an RBI ground out by Marcos Rodriguez.

After the first two batters were retired in the top of the eighth, Brian Fryer extended his hitting streak with a triple to left. One batter later, Pat O'Sullivan singled to left, scoring Fryer for a 7-6 lead.

Ryan Trytten (1-1) notched the win as he went 1 1/3 innings and allowed a run on two hits. Tyler Wilson (2-1), who had retired the first eight batters he faced in relief before the Fryer triple, took the loss.

After Gary Lee threw a scoreless eighth, Scott Vander Weg recorded a 1-2-3 ninth for his second save of the season.

Allen, Ryan Patterson and Garcia all had three RBIs for the Cats who had 11 hits in the win.

The series concludes on Sunday night at 6:05 p.m. Right-hander Nat Harris will make his third start in a Cats' uniform.
