Nicolas, Heard named AA's Players of the Month

DURHAM, NC - The official statistician of the American Association, PA-Sportsticker, has selected Grand Prairie AirHogs INF Cesar Nicolas and Shreveport-Bossier Captains RHP Jimmy Heard as the Meyvn Baseball Company Batter and Pitcher of the Month for July.

Nicolas batted .410 with four home runs, 38 RBI and 28 runs scored in 25 games. He collected 43 hits, 12 of which were doubles, slugged .638 and had a .462 on-base percentage. The Miami, FL resident is currently hitting .351 with nine home runs and 77 runs driven in. He leads the American Association in RBI and is second in doubles (24), slugging percentage (.548) and runs scored (60). Nicolas has won two Batter of the Week awards this season.

The 27-year-old was a fifth round selection of the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2004. He spent the past four seasons in the Diamondbacks organization.

Heard had a perfect 5-0 record with a 2.17 ERA this past month. In 37 1/3 innings pitched, the pure rookie allowed nine earned runs, nine walks and 33 hits to go along with 27 strikeouts. On the season, Heard is 6-0 with a 1.91 ERA in seven starts. The 22-year-old went to school at Northwestern State University.
