Sacramento River Cats News Release

FRESNO, Calif. - The River Cats collected 16 base hits-highlighted by Grant Green's four-hit night-but fell short of the Fresno Grizzlies on Friday night at Chukchansi Park, 8-7.

Sacramento got the scoring started early when Michael Taylor drew a bases-loaded walk to score Green in the top of the first. Fresno tied the game in the bottom half, however, when Nick Noonan singled home Kensuke Tanaka.

After Sacramento scored three times and Fresno scored twice each of the third and fourth innings, Sacramento led 7-5 entering the bottom of the fifth. With the bases loaded, Ydwin Villegas clubbed a bases-loaded double for the Grizzlies, giving the club an 8-7 lead it would not relinquish.

The loss was charged to Andrew Werner who gave up eight earned on 12 hits in 4.2 innings of work, moving his record to 7-11. Green's 4-for-6 night improved his batting average to .319 on the season. Six different River Cats collected two or more hits, and every man in the lineup reached base at least once.

The win was awarded to Fabio Castillo for his 2.1 scoreless innings, while Heath Hembree picked up his 17th save of the season. Villegas paced the Grizzlies offensively, going 3-for-3 with four RBI and a double.

All 15 runs were given up by the game's two starting pitchers, who gave up 15 runs-all earned-in 8.1 innings of work. Both bullpens combined for 8.2 shutout innings.

Game three of the series is set for 7:05 p.m. on Saturday night at Chukchansi Park when PCL wins leader Bruce Billings (9-4, 4.30 ERA) takes on Fresno southpaw Eric Surkamp (1-0, 1.80 ERA).
