Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

Round Rock, TX - Paulo Orlando homered and drove in four runs and Willy Taveras doubled in the go-ahead runs in a six-run eighth inning that propelled Omaha past Round Rock, 9-3, Saturday night in the third of four meetings at the Dell Diamond. The Storm Chasers won for a second time in the series to improve to 40-49 and move to within five games of the Iowa Cubs, pending the outcome of their game in Albuquerque, in the American Conference North Division.

After squandering numerous scoring chances against Ryan Feierabend, the visitors finally broke through in the decisive inning to snap a 3-3 tie. The Round Rock left-hander walked Max Ramirez, who was replaced by pinch-runner Anthony Seratelli, and Ben Broussard to open the frame before Brett Hayes dropped down a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners. The Express passed Irving Falu intentionally to fill the bases for Taveras, who looped his tie-breaking hit down the right field line to chase home Seratelli and Broussard, playing in his second game with Omaha after ending a four-year retirement. Chase Lambin then walked to reload the bases and spell the end of the night after 4 1/3 innings in relief for Feierabend, who was replaced by Wilmer Font. The right-hander was greeted by an Orlando single that plated two runs while two errors on the play allowed Lambin to score from first base to make it 8-3. Orlando then scored on a wild pitch to finish off the surge and finish off Omaha's highest-scoring frame since the third inning June 10 at Nashville.

Hayes led off the second inning with a home run against Texas Rangers right-hander Alexi Ogando, who was making a rehabilitation start with the Express. The power surge didn't end there, as Lambin walked with two outs and scored when Orlando belted a two-run homer to make it a three-run rally. The Storm Chasers had hit just one long ball in their previous eight games before going deep twice in the same inning for the fourth time this season. Ogando lasted two innings and allowed four hits while walking one and striking out one.

Jared Hoying's two-out RBI triple in the bottom of the inning got the hosts on the board and Aaron Cunningham's two-out, two-run double in the fifth tied the game at three. Omaha had strung together five singles in the fourth and fifth innings against Feierabend but could not score against the Round Rock southpaw, who had entered the contest with the eighth-best earned run average in the league. Every Omaha starter had at least one hit in a 15-hit attack and the visitors collected at least one hit in every frame against five different Round Rock hurlers.

Teaford yielded four hits, walked two and struck out four over five innings and gave way in a tie game to Brian Sanches, who spun four scoreless frames to earn his fourth win of the campaign. The veteran right-hander allowed a double to the first batter he faced and then finished off his performance by setting down the next 11 batters he encountered to sew up the Chasers fifth win in the last seven games.

The series wraps up Sunday night with Omaha right-hander Yordano Ventura taking the mound against Round Rock right-hander Jake Brigham. Coverage of the game gets underway at 6:45 pm and can be heard locally on 1180 Zone 2 The Deuce and online at omahastormchasers.com.
