Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Round Rock Express (50-40) battled back to tie the game at three but a six-run eighth propelled the Omaha Storm Chasers (40-49) to a 9-3 win in game three of a four-game set at Dell Diamond.
Right-hander Alexi Ogando made his first rehab assignment with the Express Saturday night, tossing 2.0 innings in his first action since being placed on the disabled list by the Rangers on June 9, retroactive to June 6, with right shoulder inflammation. After a scoreless first, the Storm Chasers tagged Ogando for three runs in the second, using a solo shot from catcher Brett Hayes to start the frame before center fielder Paulo Orlando added a two-run blast to give Omaha an early 3-0 lead.
Round Rock battled back in the bottom of the second, using a RBI triple off the bat of right fielder Jared Hoying to cut Omaha's lead to two at 3-1.
Ogando exited after the second, allowing three runs on four hits while walking one and striking out one on 41 pitches (28 strikes). Right-hander Johan Yan entered in the third and tossed a scoreless inning before giving way to southpaw Ryan Feierabend.
Hoying and catcher Jose Felix got the E-Train offense started in the fifth with back-to-back one-out singles. After Omaha starter Everett Teaford struck out shortstop Leury Garcia for the second out, designated hitter Aaron Cunningham doubled down the left field line, plating both runners and tying the game at three apiece.
Feierabend was in control on the mound until Omaha broke through in the top of the eighth. After four scoreless innings of relief, the left-hander issued two walks to begin the eighth. Hayes then sacrificed the runners into scoring position to put the pressure on Round Rock's pitching staff. The Express intentionally walked right fielder Irving Falu to load the bases before left fielder Willy Taveras lofted a double into shallow right that scored two and gave the Storm Chasers a 5-3 lead. After another walk to third baseman Chase Lambin, Feierabend was lifted for right-hander Wilmer Font. The first batter Font faced singled in three runs on a play that included two errors, leaving center fielder Paulo Orlando on second and Omaha up 8-3. Orlando later scored on a wild pitch to make the score 9-3 as the Express fell behind by six with just six outs of offense remaining.
The E-Train went quietly over the final two frames as the Storm Chasers took a 2-1 advantage in the series. Feierabend suffered the loss, dropping to 4-3 while Brian Sanches (4-2) picked up the win in relief for the Storm Chasers, finishing the final 4.0 innings and allowing just one hit.
The Express continues a seven-game homestand with the series finale against the Storm Chasers Sunday night at 7:05 p.m. Right-hander Jake Brigham (2-1, 4.88 ERA) is scheduled to start for Round Rock while Omaha will send Yordano Ventura (2-2, 5.16 ERA) to the hill. Designated hitter Manny Ramirez is expected to make his Round Rock Express debut on Sunday. Sunday will also be H-E-B Kid's Day at Dell Diamond featuring kiddie train rides, interactive inflatable games, a post-game run of the bases and much more!
