MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Nick Additon hurled seven strong innings as the Memphis Redbirds handed the cross-state rival Nashville Sounds a 7-2 defeat in front of 9,326 fans on Saturday night at AutoZone Park.
Additon (6-4) picked up his team-leading sixth victory, allowing a pair of runs on three hits and no walks in seven innings. The left-hander retired the first 14 batters in a row to start the game before Hainley Statia hit a solo home run in the fourth.
Outfielder Jamie Romak and second baseman Kolten Wong each homered in the win. Outfielder Adron Chambers went 3-for-3 with two doubles, while shortstop Greg Garcia added two hits and stole two bases.
Romak led off the bottom of the second with his 18th home run to give Redbirds a 1-0 advantage. Garcia later scored on a sacrifice fly from Adron Chambers.
Wong extended the Redbirds lead to 3-0 with his fifth home run of the season, a solo job over the right field wall. Memphis later attacked Tim Dillard for three base hits in the sixth inning for three runs.
Nashville plated its second run in the seventh inning on a Hunter Morris sacrifice fly.
Sam Freeman struck out one over one scoreless frame to extend his consecutive shutout streak by a reliever to 23.0 innings, breaking Josh Kinney's 22.2-inning stretch from June 28-August 12, 2006. Fernando Salas closed out the evening with a perfect ninth.
R.J. Seidel (1-4) was charged for four runs on three hits in 4 1/3 innings for the loss.
The Redbirds and Sounds conclude their four-game series at 6:05 pm CT on Sunday night at AutoZone Park. Left-hander Tyler Lyons (3-1, 3.43) will start for Memphis against Nashville right-hander Hiram Burgos (1-3, 2.93).
