Sacramento River Cats News Release
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - In their first game back from the All-Star break, the River Cats slugged their way past the host Salt Lake Bees by a score of 10-7 on Thursday night at Spring Mobile Ballpark.
Sacramento wasted little time offensively, plating one run in the top of the first when Michael Choice doubled-home Jemile Weeks, who walked to lead off the inning. Salt Lake tied the game in the bottom half on an Efren Navarro RBI-groundout, scoring Tommy Field.
The Bees scored a run in the bottom of the second to take a 2-1 lead, but the advantage would not last long as Sacramento exploded for five runs in the top of the third, highlighted by a two-run double Stephen Vogt, as well as a two-run single from Shane Peterson, giving Sacramento a 6-4 lead it would not yield. The River Cats scored four more runs-while the Bees scored three-but Sacramento ultimately came out on top, winning 10-7.
Adam Rosales paced the River Cats offensively, going 3-for-5 with a run, three RBI and a double, while Hiro Nakajima finished 2-for-4. The win was awarded to Andrew Werner, who permitted four runs on seven hits and zero walks with four strikeouts in six innings, moving to 8-12 on the season. Werner has a decision in all 20 of his starts this season. Anthony Aliotti-making his Triple-A debut-went 0-for-5 with one strikeout.
The loss was charged to lefty Dustin Richardson who gave up eight runs-seven earned-on eight hits and five walks with two strikeouts in 4.1 innings of work. Field led the way on offense, going 3-for-5 with a run, an RBI and a double.
Game two of the series is set for 5:35 p.m. on Friday night at Spring Mobile Ballpark when River Cats righty Bruce Billings (9-4, 4.18 ERA) starts opposite RHP Matt Shoemaker (8-10, 4.69 ERA).
Sacramento returns home for a four-game set against the Colorado Springs Sky Sox on Monday, July 22 for a homestand that will feature Bark in the Ballpark, Country Night, Miller Lite Thirsty Thursday and Toyota Family Value Tuesday.
